Jennifer sobs loudly on her bedroom floor, as her mind franticly searches for the reason she is no longer a human. After only a moment she opens her eyes, holding back her tears she looks right at the costume laying on the floor. 'The only reason is my costume,' she thought, 'and Anna has one form the shop too.' Her eyes grow wide with her realization. "I have to stop her from putting her costume on!" she shouts, her new tail correcting her balance as she climbs to her feet. Looking at her body again, she muses to herself, 'I better put on some clothes, I don't want to run around naked.'

Walking over to the closet, wiping the tears from her eyes, Jennifer stops in front of the door and swings it open. After rummaging for a few seconds she pulls out a small tee shirt and slips it on. Rummaging for a few more seconds, she finds a pair of shorts and quickly slips them on. She stops as a small jolt of pain alerts her to a problem, turning her head she discovers the reason, her tail is in the way. Thinking quickly she flexes the muscles in her index finger unsheathing a razor sharp claw, she pokes it through the back of the shorts and cuts a hole just big enough for her tail. With the shorts on, she walks out of her room and wonders with a sigh, 'Is there's a way to reverse what I've become?'

Jennifer runs down the hall staircase, through the living room, and stops at the front door. Grabbing the doorknob, she looks over to the far wall checking the antique clock, six twenty. "I hope I make it in time," she mutters as she twists the knob, opens the door, and runs out slamming the door closed behind her. Running at top speed towards Anna's house, she notices her new legs and feet let her run faster than normal. She slows down as she reaches Anna's front walkway, stopping at the front door she rings the doorbell. A minute passes with no answer. Getting anxious she tries the doorknob and finds it unlocked. She enters hoping she's not too late to stop Anna from becoming a monster, just like herself.

Anna picks up the paper to read the final step, "Step five, 'Complete the costume by putting on the paws.'" She tosses the paper on her bed, picks up the left paw, and slips it on. She then picks up the right paw and slips it on just as her bedroom door crashes open and Jennifer comes running in. "No, I'm too late!" Jennifer exclaims, finding her friend's costume completed.

"Too late for what Jen?" Anna inquires, "And where did you get that new costume? It looks so real."

"That's not important right now Anna, just take off your costume!" Jennifer shouts.

"Why should I?" Anna asks defensively, absentmindedly scratching an itch on her back as another one starts on her stomach.

"Please, just take it off," Jennifer pleads. Her eyes quickly scan her friend, locking on Anna's stomach. "Oh no! Anna, your stomach," Jennifer gasps.

"What, what's wrong with my stomach?" Anna asks, looking down at her slender slightly tan body, she sees the problem and lets out a horrified gasp, black hair on her stomach, growing and spreading fast while she and Jennifer stare at it. Her vision is momentarily blocked as her eyes glaze over and change color from light green to amber. She blinks a few times to clear her vision while she and Jennifer continue to stare at the spreading black hair, both unaware of her change in eye color. An intense itch on her right leg forces her attention off her stomach. She throws the paws off her hands and pulls off the right foot, discovering more black hair covering most of her leg and foot. She quickly pulls off the left foot and finding the same thing she mutters to herself, "This… this has to be a bad dream."

An odd pulling sensation on Anna's back causes her to take off the shorts and her panties to find the problem, a small round bump slowly growing just above her buttocks. She touches it to confirm its reality and shudders at the foreign sensation of her finger touching the bump. A new itch on her chest catches her attention now as she quickly yanks off the small shirt and her bra, discovering her breasts are no longer visible through the black hair. Suddenly finding it hard to stand she falls to her hands and knees, as her feet lengthen almost doubling their size, becoming more rounded in the process. Her toe and fingernails grow longer and sharper becoming claws. Soft pink pads appear on each of her fingers and palms as well as the bottoms of her feet and toes. She turns her head just in time to watch, as the bump on her back grows into a long black and white stripped tail.

The hair that now covers Anna's body starts to creep up her neck moving slowly towards her face, as the pink face paint on her nose becomes its' permanent color. Her ears are the next to change, growing larger and more pointed. In the process of moving up the sides of her head, they knock the headband resting there off. Her mouth and nose then push out becoming a muzzle, as her teeth grow long and sharp. Then suddenly the changes stop. She stays on her hands and knees unsure if she should stand up, for fear of any further changes sending her toppling to the floor again. After waiting a few moments she decides to try standing and slowly gets to her feet, her tail assisting her balance.

Anna turns to look at herself in the full-length mirror on her bedroom wall and finds an odd image, a mix of skunk and human features reflecting back at her. The only one of her features untouched by the changes, is her long dirty blond hair. The rest of her body is now covered in black hair, except for two white strips that start just above her nose and run up the middle of her face, down her back and stop at the tip of her tail. She looks over at Jennifer sitting on the floor crying, her hands covering her face, tail wrapped in front of her legs, ears twisted backwards flat against her head. She walks over to Jennifer and rests her hand on Jennifer's shoulder. "Jen, your not wearing a costume are you?" Anna asks expressionlessly.

Jennifer moves her hands away from her face and answers, her voice almost a whisper, "No."

"Did the same thing happen to you?" Anna asks, continuing with her questions.

Holding back her tears Jennifer answers again, "Yes."

"Where did you leave your costume?" Anna inquires.

Jennifer looks up at Anna confused, "On my bedroom floor." After finishing her sentence her eyes grow wide with fear as she realizes why Anna asked. "I have to get home!" Jennifer shouts as she jumps to her feet and runs out of the room through the house and out into the unusually warm night air.

The front door opens and in walks Jennifer's mother and younger sister, Katie. Katie jumps up and down excitedly as she poses her question, "Mommy can I have some candy now?"

Her mother closes the door and turns to her, "Not until after dinner."

"Oh, but I want some now." Katie whines loudly.

"Not until after dinner," her mother repeats, then adds, "Would you go upstairs and tell your sister we're home?"

"Can I have some candy if I do?" Katie asks.

"Yes you can," her mother affirms, then adds, "after dinner."

"Okay," Katie begrudgingly agrees and slowly climbs the stairs with sour look on her face.

Katie looks into her sister's room and finds her gone, but she enters anyway, her gaze hooked on the costume lying on the floor. She waders over to it and picks up some of its' pieces placing them on the bed. Feeling a strange draw to the costume, she removes the princess costume she wore will trick or treating and places it on the bed next to the cat costume pieces. Not bothering to read the instructions on the bed she picks up the shirt and slips it on first, then the shorts followed by the feet. She leans over picking up the paws and headband off the floor, and puts them on. With the costume finished she walks over to the mirror on the wall and surveys herself. The costume, far to big for her, hangs loosely from her tiny frame. She giggles at her reflection as an itch develops on her back.

The itch quickly spreads over Katie's small body as she whines loudly, "Ooh, I hate itchys," trying to scratch every itch, but not succeeding. Then suddenly the costume is no longer hanging loosely from her as it shrinks to fit her perfectly. She stops dead in her tracks when she sees hair growing on her stomach. Startled by this turn of events she tries to remove the costume from her body with no luck. No matter how hard she pulls the costume doesn't move an inch. As she tries in vain to remove the costume, the hair spreads over every part of her body, slowing down when it reaches her neck. She falls on her butt as her feet lengthen to fill up the extra room in the costume's feet. Her pinky and ring toes merge in the process, leaving four toes on each foot.

Katie's toe and fingernails grow longer and sharper becoming claws, filling in the extra space of the costume paws and feet. Soft pink pads appear on each of her fingers and palms as well as the balls of her feet and toes, consuming the last of the remaining space in the paws and feet. Then without warning the costume returns to its original size and she quickly throws it off, but the changes don't stop, they accelerate. Her face pushes out to form a feline muzzle, whiskers growing on both sides of her nose. A long tail snakes out behind her, as her teeth grow sharper. Her ears grow larger and more pointed then move up the sides of her head. The changes slow then fade away leaving another victim.

Katie opens her eyes, which she closed when her muzzle formed, to find her body very different. Her short light brown hair now has dull yellow streaks running through it. Her light blue eyes now green with slit pupils and her body covered in white, dull yellow, dull orange striped hair. She gets up off the floor and slowly walks out of the room and down the steps to the living room. She hears her mother in the kitchen and heads in. As she walks up behind her mother all the suppressed tears well up in her eyes.

Hearing footsteps coming up behind her, Katie's mother turns around and gasps in horror at the creature standing before her.

Seeing the fear in her mother's eyes Katie lets loose a torrent of tears, but manages to choke out one thing, "Mommy I don't wana be a kitty for Halloween."
